    Community & School Profile

Pasadena is located just 15 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. The city’s popular shops and restaurants blend comfortably with tree-lined streets, distinctive neighborhoods, historic buildings and a vibrant cultural scene. Pasadena is most famous for the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game.

Blair International Baccalaureate School is one of five high schools in the Pasadena Unified School District, which also consists of three middle schools and 24 elementary schools. In 30 years of existence, the school has maintained an unwavering commitment to providing students with a firm, wide-ranging academic foundation on which to build a successful future. During the 2002-03 school year 1,274 students were enrolled in grades seven through twelve.

Blair International Baccalaureate School was chosen to participate in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. There are three programs in which a school can participate, Diploma, Middle Years and Primary Years. Blair International Baccalaureate School participates in the Middle Years Program, which provides the framework for an integrated and international philosophy that is supported by academic rigor and opportunities to explore and learn about the world outside their immediate community. The school has written the application to be an authorized IB Diploma School and is awaiting the evaluation visit from the IB organization.

The Middle Years Program requires a thorough study of various disciplines. The emphasis is on students’ interrelatedness. Teachers use criteria established by the IB to assess all student work. The IB provides external moderation to validate the school’s assessment standards.

Blair IB Magnet is a fully authorized International Baccalaureate World School offering:

    • The Middle Years Programme (7th-10th)
    • The Diploma Programme (11th & 12th)
The Middle Years Programme is a program of international education designed to help students develop the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and skills necessary to participate actively and responsibly in a changing world.

The Diploma Programme is a rigorous and challenging two-year curriculum that leads to a qualification that is widely recognized and respected by the world's leading universities. Teachers use international criteria established by the IB Organization to assess all student work.

Authorized schools are visited and evaluated regularly by a team of professional educators reviews the delivery and effectiveness of the program and makes recommendations for improvement.
