Welcome to Eliot Middle School

Charles W. Eliot Middle School was founded in 1931. In 1988, Eliot was selected as one of 100 Partnership schools in the state. The purpose of this program is to establish a network of middle schools which show the initiative and commitment to explore, experiment, and implement the state of the art teaching, methods and strategies to enhance student learning and outcomes. Eliot belongs to Region G with 15 other middle schools in the San Gabriel Valley. In October of 1991, Eliot was again selected by the State as one of 80 schools to revamp the state's mathematics curriculum and assessment in middle schools. Because of our lead in the merging of technology and education we were asked to be part of the historic Educational Summit conducted by the Governor Pete Wilson and the Speaker Willie Brown in February of 1994.

Eliot is excited about our "vision for the future" which includes the development of superior academic programs for students while inviting an ever widening circle of partners into the educational process here. We have recently upgraded our computer resources, including, adding a new computer access station to our library for advanced research and circulation services.

With the pledged support of our many adopters (e.g. NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, Caltech/CAPSI, etc.) we are developing a "state of the art" science and technology lab to provide an inquiry based experimental environment for all students. In the interest of making science hands-on and relevant (and as a natural continuation of the nationally recognized Project SEED program), Eliot will collaborate with Caltech/CAPSI to design and implement viable science models for middle school students. Some projects already inspiring thought and enthusiasm include the "Telescope on the Mountain" program and VESAT (the Venus Environmental Satellite Discovery Mission) a project devised to invite our students to participate in the study.

We offer a comprehensive middle school curriculum that includes the arts and music. A strong relationship exists between Eliot and the Armory Center for the arts with our students participating in many programs over the course of the year. In addition, to help the exploratory experience, Eliot conducts an annual career day by its PTA and through its Adopt-A-School Program offers a variety of programs such as shadow day, field trips, and its renowned Science Fair that is held at von Karmon Auditorium at JPL.

One of the strongest points for Eliot is the fact we have nine GATE teachers on staff as well as ten present and former mentor teachers. We look forward to meeting with you and considering an enriched educational program for your child at Eliot.
